Silver is almost as soft as gold
in its purest (99.9% pure) form. This is the reason that silver is
alloyed with copper to provide strength to the former. Unlike the gold
ornaments, one will not find the karat-age written over the silver
ornaments because, legally, silver or sterling silver is 92.5% pure.
Most of the silver jewelry manufactured nowadays has a 925 stamp to
authenticate its purity. However, there is nothing like worrying about
the purity of silver. Gold can be contaminated, but the chances of
contamination in silver are very rare and almost none.
