Tumble jewelry is the
unique method of polishing jewelry that involves a burnishing effect
caused by the tumbling action of polished steel shot with the jewelry
pieces, bringing them to a dazzling sparkle. The major benefits of this
process are that there is no dust & particles left, no half-polished
pieces and most importantly, requires less of valuable time.
Tumbling is a much cleaner process and is generally less
time-consuming, in one step, tumble-polishing can produce a near-mirror
finish. It cleans the jewelry, burnishing it all over, including
hard-to-reach places like the insides of ring shanks and the backs and
sides of pins, and gives a uniform finish suitable for use. It is also a
safe way to polish chains and other types of jewelry that are either
difficult or unsafe to polish on a buffing wheel.
Tumble jewelry is, no doubt, an effective and easy process of polishing
the silver ornaments, but some precautions are necessary for properly
conducting the whole process. It should be taken care that jewelry
containing stones should not be polished through tumble jewelry process.
This is because stones are vulnerable to scratching, chipping,
fracturing, etc., due to the effect of shot mix and tumbling. Also, in
case of new-tumbler, it should firstly be run several times with a
mixture of shot, soap, and water, rather than tumbling the jewelry at
once.
